Today's entry is about Procrastination and Life.
Procrastination. I have become very good at this! I thought as I grew up and became a teacher, my procrastination would disappear. Ha!
As a 2nd year teacher I am required to do a portfolio to renew my license. This is the biggest waste of time! I understand that they are trying to promote teachers to be the best they can and show they can differentiate, etc, etc, but honestly, with as much as they are requiring us to do for the portfolio, I'm not sure they can weed out the GOOD teachers from the teachers that are good at BS'ing.
Back to procrastination. So this portfolio unit is due. May 1st. Yep. I've taught it- back in March. Before spring break. So I'm not worried about the actual teaching part. I was going to be good and get everything organized and be on top of everything. That didn't happen. So Easter weekend I decided I was going to do it then. Ha. Pregnant Best Friend's water broke. About 2 weeks early. So I helped her out and watched her dogs and washed baby clothes all weekend. I was exhuasted. Didn't get anything accomplished.
Anybody have any tips on procrastination?
Life. Or something like it. (Isn't that a book or a movie or something?)
I work at a charter school, so we don't have contracts. We have at-will agreements. Which means we can quit or they can fire us at any time. This sucks, especially at the end of the year. Only certain people know that they have a position. But most of us don't understand why they now before anyone else. And some of these certain people that are in the know, should seriously reconsider their choice in professions. Having a parent teach a lesson, screaming at children, having a "pop" child (a student who runs and gets you a pop when you need one), sitting at your desk while students run math meeting on their own, having students give you hand/shoulder massages. SERIOUSLY. Yet they get away with it. And I have no idea why!
So I found out on Friday out from Mama Teacher that she talked to our mentor teacher. She asked our mentor if Principal was going to be letting a lot of teachers go. Mentor Teacher said she thought so. Mama Teacher asked if he would be letting us know. M.T. said probably not.
Seriously!?!?
I'm trying to be calm and patient and understanding. Especially trying to leave it in God's hands. But it's very hard. Very. I don't feel my job is safe.
Please pray for the teachers that are GOOD, but are not in the know. Pray for the ones that are not making good choices.
I think that covers everything. On to the portfolio! (Or procrastination?)
